Decisions In Games

Jerald: I’m fed up with this game.

Olivia: What’s wrong?

Jerald: I just can’t get past this stage. It’s so difficult.

Olivia: Which part of it is hard?

Jerald: When I face the soldiers from the Evil Empire, they start coming at me in such large numbers. I can’t kill them all.

Olivia: They start shooting at you, right?

Jerald: Yes, especially when they get closer.

Olivia: Looks like you need a shield for this stage. Why don’t you have a shield?

Jerald: I just think it’s like cheating. I don’t want to use it. But you have to. It’s part of the game.

Olivia: But you have to. It’s part of the game.

Jerald: Yes, but I want to play pro-style – old school, you know!

Olivia: Now, I know why you can’t get past this stage. OK. Let me play ... Here’s the shield, right at the start. Look! The enemy moves towards you slower when you have a shield.

Jerald: Oh, I see.

Olivia: Now, I’ll start killing the enemy soldiers even before they can shoot. That’s easy now!

Jerald: Oh, the final boss is coming. I’ll kill him myself. Give me the joystick!
