Different Countries, Different Celebrations

Birthdays are important for everyone around the world. People celebrate their birthdays in different ways in different countries.

India: Kids get up and put on new clothes on their birthday and later get a special meal. They give thanks to their parents for the day they were born.

Norway: People eat chocolate cake. Also, students choose a friend from their class and dance with him or her. Germany: Families and friends give cake, candles and presents to the birthday kid. Kids don’t do homework or chores like washing the dishes or tidying the room on their birthday.

Vietnam: Kids celebrate their birthday on any day other than their birthday. Kids get money from their parents on the day they celebrate.

Holland: Some ages are special in Holland. These ages are called “ Crown Years”. They happen at age five, ten, fifteen, twenty and twenty-one. On these days, kids get a big present and drink lemonade and hot chocolate
