DOGTV, NEW CHANNEL FOR DOGS

Nowadays, even dogs have their own TVs. Filmmakers call DogTV a new kind of television. It is a show that's eight hours long, and it's just for dogs. It was made for cable TV to keep dogs calm and happy while their owners are at work. How were shows made for dogs? First of all, cameramen got down on their knees. They shot the movies low and long, which is the dog’s point of view. They also changed the colours in the show. That's because dogs see colour differently than people. Dogs can see blue and yellow, but not red or green. Finally, they added music specially written for dogs. They also removed sounds like dog barking or sirens because they can be irritating for dogs. There are no advertisements on DogTV.

There are one million subscribers to DogTV in San Diego. It is doing so well, that the company plans to offer it to all U.S houses. It will cost about $4.99 a month. More than 46 million U.S. homes have dogs, and almost every U.S. home has a television. That shows that there will be more subscribers to DogTV.

Do dogs really understand what they're watching? Dr. Nick Dodman is an expert on animals and how they behave. He says that dogs recognize other dogs on TV. They may even notice their own breed.

Bleu is a one-year-old French bulldog. He started watching DogTV a month ago. His owner, Mary Catania from San Diego, said Bleu used to watch a cartoon while Mary was away. These days, he is interested in DogTV more than the other shows he liked watching.

"I always feel bad leaving him alone all day when I'm at work," Catania said. "He's like my kid. I don't have any children, so I really treat him like my child. Anything that makes him happy, makes me happy."

DogTV has different parts. Some parts have a lot of activities, like dogs playing, sunning and even surfing. The idea is to get dogs moving even if they are at home. Other parts are more quiet. They show nature or dogs sleeping.

Many people say that their cats like the show too. CatTV may be added later. But DogTV is made just for dogs.
