Dolphins to the Rescue… Again and Again

There are many stories about dolphins that rescue humans who are in danger. Many people believe dolphins save their lives on purpose, while not everyone believes that dolphins intentionally rescue people. Read these stories and decide for yourself.

1. Dolphins escorted a swimmer for many hours (2014)

While British swimmer Adam Walker was swimming an eight-hour marathon across New Zealand’s Cook Strait, he noticed a 6-foot shark swimming beneath him. All of a sudden, 10 dolphins joined him and they swam alongside him for more than an hour. The shark disappeared when the dolphins appeared. Were those dolphins protecting Walker or just having fun? “I’d like to think they were protecting me and guiding me home,” he noted on his Facebook page.

2. Dolphins made a circle around four swimmers off a New Zealand Beach (2004)

Rob Howes, his daughter and her friends were swimming off a New Zealand beach when they saw a 10-foot long great white shark. In the meantime, dolphins began swimming in circles around the four humans. Dolphins pushed them together making a very tight circle around them and did not go away for 40 minutes. Howes said, “It [the shark] was only about two meters away from me, and the water was crystal clear so I could see the shark clearly,” Howes added. “They [The dolphins] had corralled us up to protect us.”

3. Lost Divers Say Dolphins Led Rescue Boats to Them (2004)

Twelve divers who got lost in the Red Sea believe dolphins helped save their lives. They’d been swept 45 miles away from their boat. A rescue team searched for them for hours but couldn’t find them. Finally, after some 13 and a half hours, a boat approached from the distance. After they were rescued, the guys on the boat said there were dolphins jumping to the direction of the divers. They followed the dolphins and found the missing divers. The dolphins helped them protect the missing divers.

There are a lot of incredible tales about these friendly animals who push drowning people onto shore, swim around people to push sharks away and even fight other creatures to help humans.
