DON’T BE LATE

DON’T BE LATE

Last Saturday was the most tiring day of my life. It was my mother’s birthday, so some of her friends wanted to celebrate with us. My mother was excited to see her friends from university. Everything was ready at home. The cake, the decorations, and even the music were set up. We were waiting for my mother’s friends to come. Suddenly, my mother’s phone rang. It was a friend of hers named Mrs Eva. She asked whether I could meet her at the train station. She was on the train from New York to Boston. Mrs Eva didn’t know anything about Boston. I said: ‘Of course I can meet her at the train station’. I wanted to make my mother happy because it was an important day for her. While I was going to the train station, I saw my friends sitting at a cafe. They saw me and asked me to join them. I couldn’t say no, and I thought I had enough time. However, I didn’t pay attention to the passing time. When I looked at my watch, I was shocked because I had to be at the train station in five minutes! I called a taxi, but there was a traffic jam. It took twenty minutes to get to the train station. I ran to the train platform. The train from New York had already arrived, but there weren’t any people getting off the train. I didn’t have Mrs Eva’s phone number!!! I didn’t know where she was. I looked around, but I didn’t see her anywhere. I thought my mother would be angry with me. I decided to go back home. When I came home, she was there! Mrs Eva was talking with my mum. I apologised to my mum and she said: ‘Just be careful next time, and be on time’. Mrs Eva smiled at me. I wasn’t in trouble, but I still felt sorry.
