E-bikes and e-scooters
As more and more people complain about the traffic, cities have recently come up with a better (1)... for the citizens. E-bikes and e-scooters have been a great solution to people both complaining from the traffic in bigger cities and also for the ones who want to contribute less to the pollution.
E-bikes first became popular in China. The first e-bike was (2)... in 1998. Those days only 40000 e-bikes were being made. Chinese government also banned gasoline-powered motorcycles from city centers because of air pollution (3)... . Only nine years after that, Chinese people had to fight with a terrible virus called SARS. It was very (4)... so people tried to stay away from public transport as much as possible.
Then in 2015, American companies took the use of e-bikes a step further. They designed apps for people to rent e-bikes. They also put more charging docks in bigger cities to make them more accessible for people. It is followed by e-scooters. E-scooters became more popular because they were (5)... , they didn’t need as much energy as e-bikes and they were also more practical for businesspeople who didn’t have to worry about cycling in their work clothes. Cities offer more and more e-scooters and e-bikes to their citizens every day.
Apart from all these, both e-bikes and e-scooters require less energy than cars. An average car weighs just under 1850 kg. It is approximately 23 times more than the person it carries. So most of the car’s energy is used to move the (6)... . On the other hand, an average e-scooter weighs just 12 kg. Even comparing the (7)... of energy that each vehicle requires tells us how convenient e-scooters are for the environment. As a result of that using an e-scooter or an e-bike doesn’t cost as much as a car.
There are also people who are against the idea of having electric scooters and bikes because ordinary bikes and scooters require zero energy. In bigger cities authorities say that more people using e-bikes and e-scooters showed a significant (8)... in the air pollution especially in rush hours. “Even this on its own is enough for the governments to invest more in e-bikes and e-scooters”, they say.
