Eating balanced meal

It is very important that children and teenagers eat balanced diets. Developing good eating habits is important for them to develop into healthy adults. First, children must pick a balanced meal based on the five food groups. The five food groups are fruit, vegetables, protein, grains and dairy. According to the Live Strong website, ‘Children in middle school need 140 to 230 grams of grains such as cereal, bread and pasta. They also need 140 to 185 grams of protein foods such as lean meat, fish, beans and nuts. Middle-school students should eat 2.5 to 3 cups of vegetables such as carrots, green beans, squash, and leafy greens. Also, they should eat 1.5 to 2 cups of fruit like melon, berries, apples and citrus fruits. Children this age also need at least 3 cups of low-fat milk each day.’ It’s all right to eat sweets, chocolate and chips sometimes. However, these foods are high in sugar and fat and don’t have enough nutrients. Nutrients give energy, fight off illnesses and help students concentrate in school. Making the correct food choices will help children grow into healthy adults.
