Edinburgh is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Britain. Actually, it’s the second most exciting city for visitors in Britain after London. When tourists visit Scotland, they start with the capital city, Edinburgh. It’s a very old city and it’s famous for its many important and interesting buildings.

You can see the Edinburgh Castle the first if you come to the city from the South by train. It stands over the city and it’s full of soldiers in kilts who are responsible for taking people around and telling them the story of the castle.

Edinburgh is a good city to visit on foot even though it’s a hilly one. After the castle, your next stop should be the Old Town. You can visit the three hundred year old Royal Mile to Holyroodhouse- the Queen’s home when she comes to Edinburgh.

You might do some window shopping on Royal Mile or on Princess Street in the New Town. You can see Scottish tartans in shops and you can learn about the name of the family each tartan goes with. There is also Charlotte Square near Princess Street. It’s very beautiful. You can visit the National Gallery of Scotland there. It’s full of pictures from Scotland and other countries. Scottish art is a type of a visual art, which has kept its subject matter confined to Scottish subjects since prehistoric times.

If you visit the country in August, you can participate in the Edinburgh Festival. It’s the biggest arts festival in the world and you can do more than a hundred things there.

The Scottish cuisine largely consists of wheat, fish and meat and is known for its traditional dishes such as fish and chips, Arbroath Smokie, salmon, Scotch broth etc. Moreover, their signature drinks are famous all over the world.
