Edinburgh - Cultural City
The capital of Scotland is a very cultural city. Every year in August there is the world-famous Edinburgh Festival. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage site and in 2004 it became the world’s first UNESCO City of Literature.
You can visit the birthplace of R. L. Stevenson and take a tour around the city to visit the places which inspired him. Then you can go to the centre of Edinburgh to see the Scott Monument which is dedicated to Sir Walter Scott. It is the biggest monument to a writer anywhere in the world.
If you are feeling thirsty, you can stop for a drink in the Oxford Bar, the favourite pub of Inspector Rebus, the star of the bestselling inspector Rebus detective novels written by Ian Rankin. Or you could have a coffee in The Elephant House where J.K. Rowling wrote her first Harry Potter novel.
