Eliza Bisset

Eliza Bisset lived in a small town in France all her life. She had a very boring life. She went to school to become a cook, and spent the rest of her time at home. A couple of weeks ago her life completely changed. She met an old American lady. She asked Eliza to move to America and work at her hotel. She was the owner of a big hotel in New York. At first, Eliza hesitated naturally. She wasn’t sure. Later, she found herself on a ship heading straight to New York through the ocean.

She moved into a boarding house which was owned by a French woman. She began to work in the old woman’s hotel as a kitchen maid. She has been in New York for a week now. Although she is very happy to be there, she has already started to miss her family. Before coming to New York, she promised her father that she would continue her education in New York. However, she doesn’t have enough money for school now, so she has postponed the idea until she saves enough money. Life in America is not as easy as Eliza imagined. She felt homesick in a short time. She missed her family and hometown a lot. And, she has found herself in financial problems. Life is expensive in New York and she doesn’t earn much.

One morning, the old lady asked Eliza to prepare dinner for her guests from France. Eliza was happy to receive this offer. She was hoping that this would make her feel at home. It would also give her a chance to earn extra money. What’s more, the old lady asked Eliza to cook her speciality. The chairman of ICE (Institute of Culinary Education) was invited to the dinner, too. Eliza didn’t even guess that she would have such a chance in her life.
