Exam or Fun?
Julia : Hi there! How are you doing Ken?
Ken : Not bad. I’m studying for the history exam, and I really can’t learn all those dates! I can’t memorise them. You know Mr Watson, the history teacher. He always asks difficult questions in the exams, and that’s why I’m so stressed at the moment. I’m doing my best, but I’m really hopeless!
Julia : Don’t worry! I’ll help you with that. I’m good at history. I like it and I watch documentaries on the History channel every day. You know, it is easy to learn with videos.
Ken : Well, I’m not interested in history at all. I need to learn it today just to pass the exam tomorrow.
Julia : OK. Let’s start. Give me the book, and I’ll ask you some questions. Then if you don’t know the answer, we can go over the answer together.
Ken : All right, go ahead. Here is the book.
Julia : Let me have a look. The first question is ‘When did the First World War end?’
Ken : After it started, I guess.
Julia : Come on, Ken! Be serious. I can’t help you if you don’t concentrate.
Ken : Julia, I’m trying to concentrate, but I can’t. Look! The sun is shining, and everyone is having fun on the beach. Look at Bill and Daisy over there. They are sunbathing. Greg and Fiona are drinking lemonade at the café, and we are reading a history book. That’s not fair! Why don’t we join them?
Julia : You’re saying you have an exam tomorrow, and you want to sunbathe now! I can’t understand.
Ken : I don’t usually study during the day. I study at night after everyone sleeps. So, we can put the book away for now and go swimming. Come on!
