Experience Something New
These days, many travellers want to experience something new. They don’t want to spend their holiday at a holiday resort or on a cruise ship. They want to go on a walking tour, climb a mountain and kayak down a river. Nowadays more and more people want adventure holidays because they think that they are much better. “In travel, people are increasingly looking for different experiences,” says Chris Doyle. Doyle works for an adventure travel group. The group says that adventure travel is the fastest growing trend in the travel industry. Some travellers volunteer through a group called Earthwatch Institute. Earthwatch is an international volunteer organization that supports science. Volunteers do different things like feeding and caring for cheetahs in Namibia. Most of the trips are two weeks. This organization works all over the world so volunteers get a chance to travel to places they have never been to before. Adventurers who love excitement can choose a company that puts five great adventures together into one week. These include skydiving, driving race cars, climbing mountains, flying planes and a ropes challenge course. In the ropes challenge course, travelers walk across ropes. The ropes are stretched high over a wooded area. More travellers are also sailing to Antarctica, the Galapagos Islands, and Alaska. These places are hard to see without travelling by boat. On the way, travellers learn about the places they are visiting. Another popular place to go on adventures is Africa. This is a great place for people who like to explore . Many people go gorilla tracking in Uganda, visit Ethiopia or climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Who prefers these kinds of holidays? Over half of today’s adventure travellers are women. Most are between the ages of 41 and 60. “We used to think of active holidays for 20-somethings,” says Evelyn Hannon. Hannon is the creator of journeywoman.com, which is an online website for women. “Now more women who are 50- and 60-years-old prefer going kayaking or mountain climbing.” Families also prefer adventure holidays. That gives parents and kids a chance to learn more together. They can learn about nature or different cultures. GordonsGuide.com is a website on adventure travel. It says that family-friendly holidays are very popular. Many families are going horseback riding or swimming. Others are riding the waves of a river. Travellers of all ages now prefer having adventures and learning more about nature to staying in one place and spending time doing almost nothing.
