Facts About Antarctica
1 Antarctica is the southern-most landmass and continent on our planet.
It is almost twice the size of Australia and 98% of its land is covered by ice. Antarctica has the coldest,
driest and windiest weather. It is considered to be a frozen desert with temperatures reaching below -80°C.
2 Antarctica doesn’t have any countries, but seven countries have claimed parts of it.
These countries are Argentina, Australia, Chile, France, New Zealand, Norway and the United Kingdom,
which signed an agreement to divide the continent. However, a part of Antarctica remains unclaimed.
3 Between 1,000 and 5,000 people live in Antarctica. These people are usually scientists,
who go to Antarctica to do research in research stations that belong to different counties.
4 The most common and most famous animals in Antarctica are penguins.
However, there are earless seals and other birds like the albatross and seabird.
The sea life in Antarctica is very diverse. The most well-known creatures are blue whales, orcas,
colossal squids and fur seals.
