Venice Carnival

The Venice Carnival in Italy is one of the world’s oldest festivals. It takes place in the winter and lasts for eighteen days. It is very popular with tourists. People all over the world visit Venice at carnival time. During the festival people wear beautiful historic costumes. They also wear cloaks and hand painted masks. Most people also take a gondola ride in Venice canals.

Notting Hill Carnival

The Notting Hill Carnival is London’s biggest street festival. It is an important cultural event for English people. The festival started in 1964. It takes place in August every year. The event is like a big street party. People wear colourful costumes for the carnival. There is music and parties all day. You can see many people dancing in the streets.

Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras celebrations take place every year in New Orleans, USA. Many people travel there to join the celebrations, eat, dance and join the party. There is usually a parade. People decorate floats and people on those floats throw necklaces and sweets to the people who are watching the parade.

Candle Festival

Every year in July people in Thailand celebrate the Candle Festival. Tourists from all over the country go to the city of Ubon to see the wax candles. There is music, dancers, a huge market and even a competition for the best candle design. People can also shop for candles for cheaper prices at the festival.
