Film Festival Season!

Film Festival Season!

In England it is now film festival season. This week Sheffield hosts the International Documentary Festival, and next month there is the London Film Festival. Both festivals show new films from all around the world, but there is a difference between them. The London Film Festival shows fiction films, the Sheffield Festival shows factual films.

The Sheffield festival is now 11 years old. It used to be a small weekend festival. Now it turned into a weeklong festival. They show new documentary films and plan training workshops for new directors. People can also have interviews with important filmmakers. Normally you can only watch documentaries on TV. During The Sheffield International Documentary festival you can also watch documentary films on the big screen.

There are films from all over the world, from Japan to Australia, from West Africa to Russia. In all, over 70 films are showing at the festival. One of the organizers of the festival, Christopher Hird, says he is proud of how many different cultures and lives take part in the film schedule.

The London Film Festival is different from the Sheffield International Documentary Festival. It is now 50 years and it lasts for two weeks. You have a chance to watch hundreds of films during this festival. The festival takes place in the largest cinemas in London and many people attend it. Many glamorous starts attend the premieres of important or the newest movies.

All in all, this is a fabulous month for everyone who loves to watch documentaries and films on the big screen.
