Finn's New House
Long ago, in the Irish countryside, Finn and Mona bought some land. Finn picked a perfect spot for a house in the middle of a large field. The field had wildflowers and a ring of mushrooms growing in it. "Do you see that ring of mushrooms?" asked Mona. "This is the fairies' dancing ground. If you disturb it, you will have bad luck." "I'm not afraid of fairies," answered Finn. The next day he began to build the house. When the house was finished, Finn and Mona began to hear strange noises. It sounded like thousands of tiny people tearing apart the roof. Finn looked all around the house and up to the roof. He saw no one, but he spoke to the invisible visitors. "You must be dancing fairies! I am very sorry if I have bothered you," he said. "Finn, you have built your home on our dancing field. The house must come down by midnight!" replied a small voice. "If you will stop tearing up my roof, I promise I will take the house down tomorrow," said Finn. "Thank you," said the fairies. "You are a good man. You can build your new house between those two trees beside our field." The next day, Finn tore down his house and started on the new one. He began to dig where the fairies had told him. Suddenly his shovel hit something hard. It was a huge black pot. And the pot was full of gold coins! Finn and Mona lived happily ever after, and they never were bothered by the fairies again.
