From Céline to Tarık

Hi Tarık,

How have you been since the last time we chatted? Sorry that I couldn’t text you sooner, I was really busy. I do have a couple of questions to ask you. It has been almost a week since I moved in with a Turkish girl here. We are both studying Biology at the same university. She seems quite friendly but there are some certain cultural differences that I am trying to cope with. You are my only Turkish friend, so I thought you might help me with some advice.

First of all, how can I tell her (without being offensive) that she should not invite friends over for dinner every possible night? I know you guys are really hospitable, but I can’t concentrate on my studies. Second, I need her not to vacuum the house if it is after 7 in the evening. She is so lovely and neat but that noise disturbs other French people in the building. Since she can’t speak the language, I am the one to hear the complaints. Apart from these two, I guess she seems quite easy to get along with. I just don’t want to be rude while asking her not to do those things.

Thank you in advance and I hope to hear from you soon.

 Céline
