FRUIT FRUIT
When you think of fruit, you think of something sweet and juicy to eat. Apples, berries and oranges are all fruit. But scientists think that fruit is part of a plant which contains seeds. The fruit may not be sweet. In fact, it may not be edible at all but it’s still a fruit. We eat some fruit like vegetables. Tomatoes are fruit. What about an aubergine? Do you think that it’s a vegetable? No, it’s not. Aubergines are fruit! Cucumbers and peppers are not sweet and we eat them like vegetables but they are fruit, too.
Peaches, apricots, cherries are soft and juicy fruit. Fruit is usually soft and juicy, but not always. Sometimes it’s covered by a hard shell. Think about a watermelon, it is soft and juicy on the inside, but the outside is hard. Coconuts, walnuts and other nuts are technically a fruit but they are very hard and not sweet. Avocados and olives are some other fruit that are not sweet. Lemons and grapefruit are sour and they are fruit, too.
Sweet or sour, big or small, fruit is gift of nature. They are delicious and healthy. Eat fruit every day!
