Games in the Past

Playing games is an important part of a child’s life.

Today, they have many opportunities to play in different places or with different types of toys. There are parks and indoor play areas and there are many types of toys, from tablets to Lego.

When we look back through history, children in the past didn’t have as many types of toys or places to play. Because there were no playgrounds, children would play on the streets. However, it was safer to play on the streets because there was less traffic than there is today.

Some of the children couldn’t even go to school because they lived in towns with no schools.

Although these children didn’t have many types of toys or places to play in, they knew how to have fun. They had marbles, skipping ropes and hoops. They played with them and shared them with their friends. They played tag. Sometimes they played tag with a ball. If they didn’t have a ball, they could make their own balls with rugs, old shirts or even with newspapers. They also used their imaginations. They would make their own toys from wood, pretending to be soldiers or cowboys.

According to educational experts, playing is very important for children because it helps them learn. For children, playing is an essential part of their lives.
