Georgia

Georgia

I have been unfortunate enough to have several bad travel experiences around the globe but
this one definitely gets the cake.
I was in
Tbilisi, Georgia with my family visiting my elder sister who was studying medicine there.
I am
legally blind and have contact lenses, and at that time,
my insurance would cover only glasses or
contact lenses. I had chosen contacts,
but I was
a little negligent and forgot my contact case and solution. So for the night,
I decided to put my
contacts in water (it is never a good idea, but felt better than sleeping in them)
in a glass on my bedside table on the first night we were there.
My mom woke up and threw them down the sink because she thought they were just cups of water.
When I woke up in the morning, I was trying to find them in the room.
Mom asked me what I was looking
for and I told her that I had lost my lenses.
She gave me a miserable look and said that she thought I left
my water on the bedside table as usual,
and blamed me for being messy and untidy everywhere. Instead
of apologizing, she even made me feel worse.
We went to a pharmacy to buy new pair of lenses but the
pharmacy was closed.
The security guy told us that it was the time of the year they celebrate their national
holiday.
He added by saying that we were lucky to be there because it would be the best time of the year
in Georgia.
Everywhere was going to be so colorful and people were going to dance all around the country.
I felt even worse after hearing those words and I spent the rest of my vacation seeing vague shapes,
and
asking my parents for detailed descriptions. That was the most hectic vacation I’ve ever had.
