Getting Over It
Interviewer: Today, we’re talking to Kylie Mattis, the director of an animated short film called Getting Over It. The film isn’t out yet, but I had the chance to see parts of it. I think it’s amazing. It’s full of great animation and special effects, and I think it can win an award this year. How was the process of making this film, Kylie?
Kylie: Well, before I say anything about this film, please allow me to talk about my job before making this film. I was in a motion-capture team who made an animated film in 2011, but the film wasn’t successful. So, I decided to make my own film. It had to be a short film because long films need a big budget, and I didn’t want to spend too much money. First, I wrote a scenario for a 10-minute film. Then, I removed parts of it to make the film 8 minutes long. I’m good at drawing, so I drew the scenes I had in my head. Next, I showed them to a producer, and he got interested in investing some money in my film. I used all the experience I had and spent the money to find animators and special effects artists. Some parts of the film are animated by motion capture, but the animators did most of the parts.
Interviewer: Did making the film take long?
Kylie: It took us 2.5 months on the whole, but I’m happy with the results. We’ve received positive comments from anyone who has seen the film! I hope we can win an award!
