Gladiator for a day

Gladiator for a day

Rome is the capital of Italy. Built on seven hills, it is an amazing place to visit and discover the history of the Roman Empire. If you don’t have much time to get around the city, you can take a sightseeing tour on a bus. You can then walk around one of the many ‘piazzas’ or squares, see the beautiful Trevi Fountain and take in the history of this incredible city. The Colosseum is a place you can’t miss. It is the biggest and best attraction in Rome. The Colosseum is 2,000 years old and has a gory history. Here ancient Romans could watch gladiators fight while hungry lions were getting ready to attack. You can see the labyrinth of tunnels where gladiators and animals waited to make their entrance. At a nearby Gladiator School you can wear a gladiator costume and take part in a cultural, sport and history lesson. Today the Roman Forum is a very crumbly ruin (you have to use your imagination), but in the Roman Republic, it was a busy spot where people could shop, hang out or talk about politics. Of course, when in Rome, you have to eat some delicious gelato, Italian for ice cream. There are lots of cafés and ice cream stands, so you can be sure to find your favourite flavour. You can’t leave Rome without trying a slice of pizza either. You can even go to the Pizza School to learn how to make a genuine Italian pizza. Whatever you decide to do, you will always remember your visit to Rome.
