GRASSLANDS - DESERTS - TROPICAL RAINFOREST

GRASSLANDS - DESERTS - TROPICAL RAINFOREST

GRASSLANDS (STEPPE): Grasslands are areas which consist of treeless vegetation.
Typical plants of the grasslands include grasses
and members of the sunflower family.
These plants are less than 1
meter. Woody plants predominate in steppes.
Typical animals of this
biome are huge animals such as horses, buffalos, and rhinoceros.
These type of lands are too dry for trees.
Winters are generally too
cold and there are small or big fires every 1-5 years.

DESERTS: Deserts are the natural habitats for drought-resistant plants.
Plants are typically spiny and with tiny leaves. Typical plants
include cactuses, acacias and short-lived annuals.
Common animals
in deserts are reptiles and ground-dwelling rodents.
Precipitation
in deserts is very low ( almost less than 250 mm/yr).
Temperature
in deserts is generally very high so these areas are also too dry for trees.
Fires are actually rare due to the lack of biomes in the
desertlands.

TROPICAL RAINFOREST: Rainforests are famous for tall and evergreen trees.
In rainforests, typical plants include huge figs
and tree ferns. Typical animals are snakes and birds.
Winters are
generally mild and frost-free, so it is not possible to see snow in a rainforest.
It rains almost all year round. That is why the plants have
huge and strong leaves compared to other biomes.
