Great White Sharks

Craig Rogers was scanning the distance for the next wave 1)....................................... He was extremely surprised and terrified to see the great white shark biting the front of his board when he looked down. 2)...................................... that he could even touch its eye. In his horror and confusion, he tried to move his surfboard using his hands, but the shark surfaced suddenly and cut his fingers with its sharp teeth. Then the five-meter-long shark swam away, 3)....................................... Craig stood still flowing blood from his fingers.

How come Craig survived although the shark could easily kill and eat him? The most satisfying explanation is that great white sharks don’t see well. There was probably another big fish, too and the shark followed it. The second and slight possibility is that the great white discovered that 4)................ ....................... A recent research shows that great whites are curious animals and they use their bite not only to kill but also to gather information. When they bite surfboards or other objects or people, they learn what they are too, and Craig was probably one of those unlucky ones.
