GROWING FOOD ON MARS

Researchers from the US space agency NASA are trying to get people to Mars. They are carrying out tests to see what type of plants and vegetables can grow in the reddish soil of Mars. They are hoping that astronauts will be able to start producing their own food on the Red Planet. It can take up to three years to get to Mars, it is a long journey. The astronauts will have to have a lot of food with them only for the journey. According to the plans, they will never come back to Earth during the exploration, and this means they will need to grow their own fruit, vegetables and other plants from seeds. NASA said this is a huge problem because the reddish soil of Mars is not good enough to grow things. It is just red dust.
