Many athletes have helped make the world a better place. Here are three of them:

Yogi Berra

Yogi Berra was born in St Louis in 1925. Berra grew up playing baseball. In 1946, he joined the New York Yankees. Berra became one of the best baseball players of his time. He broke many records. He won 10 World Series championships. That’s the most ever. Berra supported many charities. One was Realizing the Dream. This group works to make sure people are treated fairly. Berra also supported the Yogi Berra Learning Centre. There, kids take classes and learn about teamwork. They also learn to be leaders.

Pelé

Pelé was born in Brazil in 1940. He always wanted to play football. He worked hard. By 15, Pelé was a professional player. In 1958, he helped Brazil win the World Cup. He was the youngest player ever on a championship team. Pelé is also a champion for kids. He supports many charities. Among them is the ABC Trust. This group helps poor children. Pelé also supports the Little Prince Complex. This group gets health care for kids.

Nadia Comaneci

Nadia Comaneci was born in 1961. She grew up in Romania. She dreamed of being a top gymnast. Comaneci trained hard. In 1976, she made it to the Olympics. The 14-year-old won five medals that year. Three of them were gold! She won nine Olympic medals in all. Today, Comaneci helps young gymnasts reach their dreams. She works the Special Olympics and teaches young gymnasts. Comaneci also supports the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. This group changes kids’ lives through sports and helps them achieve their dreams.
