The 2012 East Azerbaijan earthquakes happened on 11 August 2012 in Iran. It was in the afternoon when two earthquakes with the magnitudes of 6.4 and 6.3 rocked the north-western part of Iran with an interval of just 11 minutes. In total, 306 people were killed and more than 3,000 people were injured. Some villages were completely destroyed along with the roads that were the only way to send help to the people there. The stories were tragic, but the reaction from the people was heroic. In only a few hours, thousands of people rushed to hospitals to donate blood. Also, people set up hundreds of caravans and sent first aid, clothing and other necessary stuff to the affected areas.

In 2017, during Hurricane Harvey, Annie Smith was about to give birth to a baby. Her husband called 911 emergency services, but he was unable to get through. After some neighbours and a group of firefighters arrived to help, one of the neighbours asked everyone at the scene to create a human chain. They locked arms together to help Annie to go to a truck waiting outside her home in rising floodwaters. The truck successfully took her to a hospital and her baby was born the next day.
