A hobby is an activity that someone does to relax when they are not working or studying. Many people have at least one hobby. It makes them feel relaxed and happy. There are different types of hobbies. Some people like collecting things. These people are called ‘collectors’. Below are three famous collecting hobbies:

1. Philately - Stamp Collecting

This hobby is about collecting stamps from around the world. Philatelists collect used stamps. Stamps are small sticky pieces of paper with pictures. In old times, people used letters to communicate and when they put the letter in the envelope, they had to put a stamp on the envelope. We still use letters and stamps, but not very often.

2. Numismatics - Coin Collecting

This hobby is about collecting coins from around the world. Coins are small metal money. We still use coins to buy things. People used coins thousands of years ago. There are some very old coins in museums around the world.

3. Notaphily - Banknote Collecting

This hobby is about collecting banknotes from around the world. Banknotes are money made of paper. Our money is still made from paper. Each banknote has got a serial number. Serial numbers start with ‘A’ and continue through the alphabet. Collectors only collect banknotes with an ‘A’ serial number, because they are the first ones.
