Hobbies, Activities and Experience
I get a bit bored with the usual holiday ideas. I prefer to learn something new in a different part of the world. What is your advice?
– Phoebe
I’m a university student in London, and I’ve got six weeks off. I’d like a holiday where I can work and get to know a new culture at the same time.

We’re looking for a short break maybe in a European city. We don’t want to spend a lot of money. Any suggestions?

I love a challenging holiday—doing something physical and feeling tired at the end of the day. What are your recommendations?
– Amy
I enjoy driving and love camping, but sometimes another night in a tent in the rain doesn’t appeal to me. Have you got any ideas?
– Rebecca
A There are so many wonderful cities to experience – it’s hard to choose. First, look for special offers from a low-cost airline. Then, you should check what holiday apartments there are to rent – they can be convenient. That way, you feel part of the local area, too.
B You should check out websites that offer work experience around the world in people’s homes, farms and businesses. It’s an amazing way to get to know culture because you work, eat and socialise with local people. It may change your life forever.
C Learning a new skill adds another dimension to your holiday. There are so many options. It’s easy to find the right course. Cooking in Italy, photography in Morocco, salsa dancing in Cuba or yoga in Thailand. Take your pick.
D Why don’t you go on a hiking holiday in the Alps? There are fantastic half-board deals in the summer. For a real challenge, perhaps you could take the Haute Route starting from Mont Blanc, but you have to be an experienced hiker.
E You shouldn’t camp! Why don’t you hire a cool retro camper van instead? It’s surfer’s favourite to take to the beach. That way, you’re independent and can drive from place to place. You sleep in the van, so you don’t need to worry about the rain.
