Holi – The Festival of colour
1.This celebration begins with the lighting of several fires. The first is lit by a priest and then many others quickly follow. A popular children’s activity is to make a person like figure called a Holika, and burn him on the bonfire. Then, it is tradition for people to collect and burn rubbish to get rid of all of the bad luck from the previous year.
2.Then, it is the most exhilarating part of the festival - the throwing of colour. Everyone buys coloured powder which they mix with water, and then they energetically throw it at each other. It is lucky to be covered in as much colour as possible. On the final days of the celebrations, there are many people dancing in magnificent parades .
3.Holi is an Indian festival in early March every year. It celebrates a successful Spring harvest and when nature is at its best. During the five- day festival of colour, people have the opportunity to visit friends and family, to share gifts , and to eat and to drink special foods. Also, people wear and buy new clothes. They are never alone at this time of year.
