HOLIDAY SEASON AND SHOPPING

HOLIDAY SEASON AND SHOPPING

In the United States the day after Thanksgiving is called “Black Friday.” It is the biggest shopping day of the year.

There are always very strong sales on the first day of the season. People line up in front of the stores so that they can go in before other people. Some people even sleep in front of the stores so that nobody can line up before them. Stores usually open early in the morning and people start shopping. Some stores even open at midnight on Thursday.

Many stores sell all their items in just a few hours. People can buy many things like flat screen TVs, toys and clothes for a lot cheaper. The sales then slow over the weekend.

Experts say more people do shopping and they spend more money every year. Sales usually go up by six percent. Stores make more discount so they have more customers.

People usually prefer shopping from department stores and electronic stores. Items in electronic stores are more expensive on normal days so people buy their electronic needs on “Black Friday.” These are usually TVs, mobile phones, digital cameras or computers.

Toys “R” Us, Sears, and Kmart always have strong weekend sales. Each store has popular items with customers. At Sears, it is flat-screen TVs and digital cameras. Tools are also popular. At Kmart, hot items are holiday decorations, Christmas trees, jewelry, and toys. Toys “R” Us is always popular because many people buy presents for their children.

Online shopping is also strong during that time of the year. The Monday after Thanksgiving is the busiest day of online shopping. It is called “Cyber Monday.” All online stores make huge discounts on millions of items. People spend about $600 million on “Cyber Monday.” Many people wait for these two days to do their shopping.
