How to Learn a Language
A lot of students struggle to learn a new language, but the get disappointed when they see a lot of mistakes in their speaking and writing, when they see they don’t know a word in a text, and when they can’t fully understand a native speaker. Have you ever asked yourself, ‘Perhaps I have the wrong strategy to learning?’ Research shows that if you learn the correct techniques, you can learn faster and better.
(1) ..................... Learning is related to what happens in your brain, so your brain should be ready for the new information. Most of us study for a short time and at times when our brain can’t take any more information. If you come home from work or school and you’re exhausted, don’t expect to learn much.
(2) ..................... Your success rate is low when you memorise and repeat random words from a text, vocabulary book or flash cards. You have to know what a word means in different situations and how we use it in a sentence.
(3) ..................... Don’t get upset when your teachers tell you your mistakes. Every student makes mistakes, and every student has to learn not to repeat them. Sometimes it’s important to ask your teacher to find more mistakes in your speaking and writing and tell you the correct forms.
