HURRICANE AT AUNT MARIE’S

HURRICANE AT AUNT MARIE’S

Dear Candace,

I am so glad to hear about your new job at the school new sp ap er! We need some good news around here because we have had some terrible weather problems. I am writing to you by the light of a candle right now! Did your mom tell you about the hurricane we had here? The power lines collapsed in my neighborhood, and I don’t know when they will fix them. I feel like we are living in the 1850s because we have no electricity, no hot water, and, of course, no mobile phone signal. I feel so silly because I never read the weather report, and I thought a normal thunderstorm was coming through when I looked out of the window. I have bee n in a few hurricanes in my life, so I know you need to prepare. Usually, I get lots of water for the house and canned food. However, this time, I wasn’t ready a tall! I had to ask my neighbors for everything. Thank goodness they had extra water and food. Oh! The lights just came on, and the refrigerator is working again! I am going to go take a hot shower right now. I hope you liked getting an old fashioned handwritten letter!

Love, Aunt Marie
