Tom: Where were you yesterday, Angela? I was calling you for the whole day, but you didn’t answer at all.

Angela: Sorry, Andy. I was busy in our house and garden.

Tom: Were you doing gardening?

Angela: No, my mum was. I was just helping her around the house. I was cooking and cleaning the house. Why did you call?

Tom: Well, I was studying German, and I couldn’t say some of the words. Some German words are very long, and it’s very hard to read them.

Angela: Did you think I could help you with that?

Tom: Yes, because your parents are German.

Angela: I know some German, but I’m not as good as a native speaker. My parents were living in Germany until they were teenagers. They didn’t teach me much German here in the UK.
