Important Inventors
There are many important inventors and inventions. Here you will find some information about three inventors who are very important in history.
Wright Brothers: Orville Wright (1871 – 1948) and Wilbur Wright (1867 – 1912) are brothers whom most people associate with flying planes. They managed their first recorded flight on 17 December 1903. After that, they carried out their studies which were a great contribution to the development of the modern aeroplane. Their father was a minister and he had to work in different churches. As a result of that, the family had to move a lot. Their father always encouraged them to read widely and discuss issues. This encouragement helped the brothers to have different kinds of interests and studies. Their father is also a reason for them to start building planes since he was the person who bought them a small ‘helicopter’ built in France when they were young.
Nikola Tesla: Nikola Tesla (1856 – 1943) was one of the greatest and most enigmatic scientists who played a key role in the development of electromagnetism and other scientific discoveries of his time. He was a special man who could visualize images in his head. This was a crucial gift for him because with the help of images in his mind, he never had to take notes about his plans while working. In 1884, he started to work for the Edison Machine Works company in the United States. In this company he was given the responsibility of improving the electrical system of direct current generations and they stated that he would be given $50,000 if he could manage that. He completed the task successfully but he received no award. This was one of the reasons for Tesla and Edison not to be in good terms and they became strong opponents. This was also the reason for both of them not to be awarded a Nobel prize for electrical discoveries. Other than being an inventor, he was also a writer who had a book called A Means for Furthering Peace (1905). He was also the friend of Mark Twain who was also an author. It is for sure that he was a genius who worked very hard for the sake of humanity. Two hours of sleep was enough for him. He died in a New York, in a hotel room when he was 86 years old.
