In 1800

In the past life was different. The cities looked different too. There weren’t any cars in 1800, so people used horses and carriages to travel.

There was no electricity. So people burnt torches to keep the streets light. In a lot of places in the world, the streets were completely dark. The first gas lights were in London around 1800.

There weren’t any fridges in the kitchens at that time. People kept their food and drink in basements called the ‘cellar’. Usually, there was a door in the house floor. People used it to go to the cellar and bring food to the kitchen.
