Insects
Do you have a pet? How about an insect for a pet? Some cockroaches are interesting pets. Many people like to keep hissing cockroaches. They come from Madagascar. They are five to eight centimetres long. These cockroaches don’t have wings. They need a warm and wet cage. Owners should use a heat lamp. Hissing cockroaches like to eat fruits and vegetables like lettuce, tomatoes, bananas, and apples. They can be touched and are gentle. Most hissing cockroaches live for two to three years. Praying mantises are popular to keep as pets. They usually live for six months to one year. Their home should have plants in it. Like cockroaches, they need a warm, wet place. They do not eat fruits and vegetables. They’re hunters and only eat live insects like flies and small spiders. Stick insects are another good pet. They live for up to two years. They don’t eat fruits or vegetables. They only eat fresh leaves. Every few months stick insects moult. This means they change their skin. It’s very interesting to watch.
