INTERESTS OF TRAVELLING
Travelling has always been one of my main interests in life and I am trying to travel whenever I find the time and the money. I do not want to write about the reasons why people travel since everybody has their own reasons. I am old enough to compare travelling in my childhood with travelling now. What is more, I am young enough to imagine what the future holds for travellers. I would like to look into the differences in travelling under three aspects; ease of travel, cost of travel, and how you stay in touch while travelling.
EASE OF TRAVEL: In the past, if you needed travel information, you would have to look in brochures at a travel agent, feel lost, read travel guide books or listen to your friends’ experiences. Transportation was a nightmare when I was a child. We used to travel by bus or train due to less flights. As a result, it used to take long hours to go from one place to another under uncomfortable conditions. Now, people have access to travel blogs, visuals, and videos on YouTube or they can even travel virtually which uses a panoramic simulation video of a place that you can view repeatedly for travel or vocational research. You just surf the Net for the best deal, shop online and off you go. The time you spend on transportation is less. You check-in online, print your boarding pass, and fly.
COST OF TRAVEL: It was much more costly to travel in the past since there were fewer options about anything- from travel agents to hotels, from transportation companies to airlines. When you browse the Internet, you can easily find a flight or a hotel that suit your tastes and also budget. You may want to read travel blogs that advise on how to travel on a small budget.
HOW YOU KEEP IN TOUCH: It wasn’t easy to hear from your beloved ones who went on a journey. People used to write letters, send post cards or, if lucky, call from a phone booth. You have unlimited options to communicate while travelling. You can e-mail, Skype, tweet or post on Instagram. If you want to go old school, you can still send a postcard, keeping in mind that it is snail mail.
It seems to me that advances in technology have been improving not only our daily lives but also our travelling habits. It is also breathtaking to dream about the future possibilities of travelling such as exploring space as a tourist. I wonder what my great-great grandmother, who has never left her village once in her life, would think.
