Headphones were invented long before computers or cell phones. In 1881, the first headphones were used by telephone operators. They had only one earpiece and weighed 5 kilos. In 1910, the first modern headphones were produced by Nathaniel Baldwin. He sold them to the US Navy, they were used in the army. However, Baldwin didn’t get a patent for his product. In 1949, AKG designed a new style of headphones and they became very popular. In 1958, a new model was designed by John Koss with better sound quality. His product was the most popular one for 20 years. Then, the Walkman was created by Sony and it changed the game. Every young person wanted to have a Walkman. In 1980, earbuds were invented and headphones lost their popularity for a while. In 2008, Dr. Dre created the Beats headphones with great style and excellent sound quality. It became a trend among the rich because they were quite expensive. Lil Wayne bought one of the most expensive headphones for 1 million dollars, it was covered with diamonds. Today, it’s used more for style than music.
