IS YOUR ROOM MESSY?
How many times a day does your mother say ‘clean your bedroom!’ to you? I guess you started smiling before answering this question. Cleaning your bedroom may be something that you really hate, but your mum is right. You need to clean your bedroom. According to a study by researchers at the Princeton University Neuroscience Institute, a clean and organized environment makes it easier for you to focus and exceed your brain’s ability to process information. Messiness distracts you from what you are working on. When an environment is messy, it limits your ability to focus. It is also more difficult to relax. Messy homes and bedrooms make people feel anxious and tired and that causes more stress in your life. ‘The cleanliness of my surroundings definitely affects how well I can focus on my school work,’ Aubrey Godwin of Princeton University said. ‘If my room is messy, I cannot do anything until it is clean. I just can’t sit down at my desk and focus on homework with clothes all over.’ Another study, conducted by New York’s St. Lawrence University, proves that a messy bedroom could cause a poor night’s sleep. The study shows that it takes longer for people to fall asleep if their bedroom is cluttered . On the other hand, people with neat and tidy rooms can fall asleep easily. Less sleep will result in being more tired which also causes anxiety and stress. So now look around your room one more time and start tidying before your mother reminds you.
