Island Life

David Bateman lives and works on a farm with his wife and two children. It is an unusual farm. The sheep farm is on a small island with no other people and no shops. The Bateman family moved to the island a year ago. Before they moved to the island, they lived in a city and David was a teacher.

The family enjoy living on the island, but life is sometimes hard. In the winter the weather is very bad. It is impossible to leave the island because the sea is very dangerous, so they spend the whole winter on the island. David’s wife, Kerry, teaches their children at home. There is no school on the island. She also opens a café in the summer for tourists. The children sometimes miss their friends, but they don’t miss school. They have a TV, but they don’t watch it very often. They probably watched more TV when they lived in the city.
