IT IS JUST AN EASTER EGG… OR IS IT?
A scrap dealer bought an antique decorative egg at a second-hand goods market in the USA for $13,000 only because it was made of gold. When he decided to sell it at a profit, he googled the name of the manufacturer, to his amazement, he found out that he possessed a priceless item. The London-based Fabergé experts valued the egg at $33 million. It wasn’t just a golden antique Easter egg, but it was an art piece. It also had a small watch inside it, which made it even more valuable.
The Egg was made by Faberge for the Russian Tsar Alexander III in late 1800s. He gifted it to his wife to celebrate their 20th engagement anniversary. 1902 marks the year it was last exhibited for the public in St Petersburg. Kieran McCarthy, director of an expertise company said that it has been the most amazing discovery ever made in the 20th and the 21st century so far. He said it is every antique dealer’s dream to witness such a discovery once in their lives. He also added that, unfortunately, the gem could disappear into the deepest vaults of a collector somewhere, never to be seen by ordinary people again.
