Washoku is a traditional Japanese food and is on UNESCO’s list of important world dishes along with French, Mediterranean, Mexican and Turkish food. This food is famous for being pleasant to the eye and quite healthy. It usually includes rice, fresh fish and a lot of seasonal vegetables. Washoku is healthy because it has a good balance of minerals, vitamins, carbohydrates and protein. This is why Japanese people live long and are usually slim.
Different meals help to bring families and communities together in Japan. Food is part of many ceremonies in seasonal celebrations, such as New Year’s Day, rice-planting events and harvest festivals. The government of Japan say that food helps Japanese people keep a strong sense of culture. Washoku is also a way to show respect for nature.
