Jet Li, a very successful action film star, is not like most other action stars. That is, Li does not pretend to be an expert martial artist. He truly is. Li was born in Beijing in 1963. At just 8 years of age, he began studying wushu, a type of martial art. His teacher, Wu Ben, knew Li had talent. Soon, the rest of China knew, since Li won first prize at the Chinese National Martial Arts championships five years in a row, from 1974 to 1979. Li’s first film, Shaolin Temple, came out in 1982. In 1998, he appeared in his first big Hollywood movie: Lethal Weapon 4. Other hits followed. Jet Li’s fans look forward to many more exciting films from this action superstar.
