Hi, I’m Sophie. I live in Alaska, the United States. My house is very close to the North Pole. In winter, it is freezing cold, and it snows a lot. My mum works in the National Park near our house. She’s a ranger. She keeps the park and the animals there safe. In winter, as the roads are covered with snow, rangers can’t use them. They travel on dog sleds. Each ranger has a sled and a team of dogs. The dogs learn to pull the sleds when they’re puppies. They love pulling the sleds.

Hello, my name is Alexis. I live in Toronto, Canada. We call our police officers ‘the Mounties’ (the actual name is the Royal Canadian Mounted Police). They wear red jackets, brown hats and boots. In the past, the police officers used horses, but now they usually use police cars and motorbikes. We see the Mounties on horses when Queen Elizabeth II comes to visit Canada.
