Let’s Protect Our Oceans

Let’s Protect Our Oceans

The 17th of September was International Coastal Cleanup Day. All around the world people went to their local beaches. They picked up rubbish and recycled plastic. By the end of the day, over eight million kilos of material were collected. It’s very important to protect our environment. Sadly, the oceans are full of rubbish. Plastic is dangerous to all sea life. Fish eat small bits of plastic, and then people eat those fish. It’s not healthy. Dolphins, turtles and other sea animals can get trapped in plastic. Boat motors can get damaged from the trash in the water. Rubbish on the beaches isn’t good for local tourism. People can protect the oceans in many ways. People should throw away their trash in bins, not on the ground. They can recycle plastic so it won’t go into the ocean. Local businesses can use glass and metal products. Companies can package their products in compostable materials. This means the package breaks down in the environment. People can volunteer and clean up their local beaches and cities. Everyone should work together to keep the oceans clean.
