LIFE IN SASKATOON
Kamal and his family live in Saskatoon, Canada. Summers are short and winters are long in Saskatoon. It starts snowing early in November. It’s usually -10 to -15 degrees in January and February. They live in a big house with a big yard. When it snows, Kamal has to help his father to clean the yard. They have to clear the front of the gate to take their car out. It’s a tiring job and Kamal doesn’t really like it. They have to do it three or four times a week because it’s dangerous to walk on the ice.
He has to get up early and help his father before going to school. Usually, his father drives him to school because there’s no subway or railroad. There are big forests in Canada. Many wild animals like wolves, deer, bears, foxes and birds live in the mountains and the forests.
Foxes and wolves are endangered now because of over-hunting and pollution. Kamal started a campaign at his school to protect the environment and save the resources of Saskatoon. He thinks that students have to learn about the danger of chemicals, about recycling and using green energy. His family is proud of him. Kamal is in the ice hockey team.
He and the other members of his team have to practice every Saturday. Soon they have a match coming, so they practise every Saturday and Sunday now. Kamal’s grandparents never miss a match. They live in another town which is three hours away. So, they have to drive to Saskatoon on the day of the match. Kamal loves spending time with his grandparents.
