LILY IS ILL
Lily doesn’t feel very well this morning. She can’t go to her ballet class because she has itchy eyes and a fever.
Her mom takes her to the doctor. Doctor is looking at Lily’s eyes and throat.
Doctor: Open your mouth, now say ‘Aaaah’.
Lily: Aaaah.
Doctor: Hmm, I see. It’s nothing much to worry about. I think it’s just an ordinary cold.
You have a sore throat. Does it hurt when you eat or drink?
Lily: Yes, it hurts a lot.
Doctor: You shouldn’t drink any cold drinks Lily. Warm milk with honey and some lemon tea is good for you.
Lily: Achoo!! I’m sneezing, too. Achoo! Can I go to school tomorrow?
Doctor: I don’t think that is a good idea Lily. You should stay in bed and rest tomorrow.
And no ballet lessons for a few days. You shouldn’t exercise.
When you’re ill your body needs to rest and save energy to fight the germs.
Also, remember to wash your hands with soap and water frequently when you are ill.
Germs and bacteria can live on your hands for a couple of days.
You should blow your nose and throw the dirty tissues into the garbage. Germs also live on dirty tissues.
Lily: Oh, that sounds horrible. I should be more careful about it.
Doctor: You should eat plenty of fresh fruit every day.
Fruit and vegetables contain a lot of vitamins and keep our bodies fit and strong.
And don’t forget to drink a lot of water. You don’t need any medicine now,
but I want you to come back on Friday.
Lily: Oh great, I hate taking medicine. Thank you Dr Miller. See you on Friday then.
