Little Hands, Big Help!
‘Can you come and help me, Jack?’ asked Anna. The silence was broken by Jack’s loud voice. He was a very noisy boy; his voice was loud enough for someone to hear it from a mile away. ‘Me, again, mum?’ he said. ‘What do you need?’ ‘I need you to get the sugar jar from the top shelf,’ said his mum.
‘I am going to bake a cake.’ Jack was annoyed. ’Mum!’ he moaned. ‘You have two other kids and they are both tall and old enough to reach that shelf, and you still have to call me? Why?’ ‘Come on, Jack. They’re tall enough, yes, but they’re not careful enough and I don’t want everywhere to be covered with sugar. Ok, please.’ Jack gave up. ‘Ok, mum’, he said, ‘I’m coming.’ ‘Thank you, Jack,’ said Anna to her son.
‘You are so kind and you always help me anytime I ask. Brian is strong enough to carry that jar but you know he’s too clumsy. Remember the last time he broke four plates carrying them to the dining room. Philip doesn’t have enough time to help anybody. He has to study for his exams and he’s got too much homework this weekend to help around the house. Not everyone is like you, Jack. You are too clever for words. You can finish all your work in no time at all!’ Jack laughed. ‘Ok, mum you don’t need to flatter me that much! You know I’ll help you whenever you ask.’
