LONG WAY ROUND
EWAN MCGREGOR:
Ewan’s name is pronounced “you- an”, and he is a UNICEF ambassador. His best friend is actor Charley Boorman, with whom he traveled around the world on motorbikes in 2004. They met on the set of the movie The Serpent’s Kiss (1997). Ewan was nearsighted. Before his trip around the world with Charley Boorman, he had a laser eye operation to improve his eyesight, so he did not have to wear glasses or contact lenses. He adopted a 4-year-old girl from Mongolia, named Jamyan, whom he met while he was on the trip. They made a movie out of the trip called Long Way Round.
CHARLEY BOORMAN:
Charley Boorman has been riding motorcycles since he was seven years old. He grew up on a farm in Ireland and used to ride through the fields on his first motorbike and take part in schoolboy motor cross and Enduro races. In 2004, Charley and his best mate Ewan McGregor came up with the madcap idea of travelling the world on motorbikes. After months of preparation, the pair set off from London in April 2004. Over the next three months, they traveled through three continents and fifteen countries. Long Way Round (2004) was the realisation of a dream born out of two friends’ love of motorbikes.
